Letter from Dallas
I’m just a plainspoken Colorado criminal defense lawyer, but the way I see it…
Brian Owsley is a constitutional law professor with a background in human rights lawyering who first graced these pages last October.
He wrote today to tell me he’s been busy, but not too busy to look into the Don of Mar-a-Lago’s baby-man-whining about the FBI raiding “my beautiful home.” (That’s my characterization, not Professor Owsley’s, who I may have mentioned before is a way nicer man than I).
A former United States magistrate judge who himself signed countless search warrants, Owsley says while the search and seizure may have been shocking to the Orange McMuffin (me again; can’t help myself) and his toadies (yup), it was also something that the big boy never seemed to concern himself with much before: it was constitutional.
He wrote about it, in much gentler language, for the Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News.
He generously shared a .pdf version below.

A few random words come to mind… President Tony Soprano; the Teflon Don, and the like.

Regarding the Mar-A-Lago raid, it may be constitutional. However, it is nonetheless unprecedented and concerning, regardless of party affiliation. I would not support such a raid on former President Obama’s home, either. Especially knowing there are a plethora of TS clearance Secret Service agents around to assist with securing and transporting any documents. The optics are not the greatest, and if it turns out none of the documents were in fact still classified, it’ll be even more of a media circus than it already has been.

Well, when it comes to Trump the odds on favorite says he is guilty. He has always been a sleazy lowlife who acts like a spoiled child. Money has let him slide thru many things that most people would suffer for. It’s highly unlikely he will ever go to prison. Let’s just send him off to North Korea so he can hang with his little buddy!
