All I Want for Christmas
I’m just a plainspoken Colorado criminal defense lawyer, but the way I see it…
Lots of folks make Christmas lists. Here’s mine:
- A police officer who will take the stand and tell the truth.
- A prosecutor who will regard a defendant as an individualized human being rather than a prospective conviction statistic.
- A judge who sees the role as advocate for justice rather than for the government.
- A juror who actually presumes a person innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
- A fundamentalist Christian and radical Islamist who see each other as brother or sister.
- “Christ” put back in Christmas — not the person, but the teachings about how we all should treat each other.
- No more police shootings of people who aren’t shooting back.
- No more shootings of any kind.
- My kids, my wife, my dog, home, and safe.
Maybe not all I want, but for a start.

Greetings again from little old Noo Zealand way down here at the bottom of the Pacific. Sure, we’re out on a bit of a limb but Santa, bless his black boots, still manages to find his way. Great list Phiip! Mine is nearly the same especially the first four points. I thought these four points are only for lawyers in country like mine, where the rule of law is somewhere in the garbage can. Though it does not make me happy that it is not only me having these four points. What I hope is this to be a Christmas List to work on and be fulfiled, not just another nice Christmas Carol with dreams for a brave new world.

True, and the garbage can is regularly maintained by the corupted politicians.
Anyway, today I will rather take care for the Christmas eve list and the presents under the tree.
