Great day for Apple and Rupert Murdoch yesterday, as they introduced the first subscription newspaper available for the iPad.

So what does the great media magnate do on just the second day of publication? He puts a “touching” video of assassination target Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, on the front page, shilling for the iPad (and of course The Daily). Not very Apple-like, but very, very Murdoch-like.

He’s been holding on to the spot for weeks, and must have thought it a good idea to get it out ASAP, just in case she dies or is somehow embarrassingly disabled. Give the guy his 14 cents for the issue: he’s earned it.
